Description
This is a fabulous set of mid century, French, fondue plates and a matching salad bowl. These plates would be ideal for anyone who loves cooking outdoors and wants to add a bit of 'French chic' to their barbecue parties.
They are rare and collectible.
Each Plate carries the 'Gien France' mark and are marked ''Decor Garanti Inaltérable. Paint a Main (hand painted.) Cuisson à 1150c CORDON ROUGE'' on the undersides.
They are 24cms/ 9½" diameter and weigh 500gms / 1.1lbs each.
The bowl is 20cms/ 7¾" diameter x 8.5cms/ 3¼" deep and weighs 700gms / 1.5lbs.
They are in excellent condition with no chips. Some of the plates have an ageing 'hairline crackle' to the glazes, which is to be expected with the age of this set, and does not in any way detract from their beauty or functionality; it in fact adds to the charm and authenticity of these gorgeous items. However the 'crackle' is noticeable on a couple of the plates, and so you will need to bear this in mind if you decide to purchase this amazing set.
The plates are vintage white and divided into six sections for different sauces and meats:
'La Sauce Curry' whose ingredients can include fresh onion, garlic and chilli paste. Common spices include garam masala, dried chili powder, cumin powder, turmeric and ngapi, a fermented paste made from either fish or prawns.
'La Sauce Moutarde' is a sauce using whole, ground, cracked, or bruised mustard seeds that are then mixed with water, vinegar, lemon juice, wine, or other liquids, salt, and often other flavourings and spices, to create a paste or sauce ranging in colour from bright yellow to dark brown. The taste of mustard ranges from sweet to spicy.
'La Sauce Diable' is a spicy, tangy, brown sauce traditionally served in France with chicken or poultry. Sauce Diable is used to add some peppery zest to your grilled or roasted chicken, pork, or vegetables.
'La Sauce Tartare' is based on either mayonnaise (egg yolk, mustard or vinegar, oil) or aioli (egg yolk, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice) and popular with Seafood.
The design shows a 'Fondue' cooking pot alongside the long stemmed forks in the center circle and the words 'Filet de Boeuf' at the bottom of the largest section. The colors are classic mid-century modern -bold and striking. The attention to detail is fabulous.......the Burgundy red of chunks of beef and the golden yellow and cobalt blue of the flame pot.........Just wonderful!................
This set would be the perfect addition to your retro, modern mid century collection.
...........et Voila!.........
